OneStop Business Registration
Community Futures South Fraser is home to the OneStop Business Registration (OSBR) system, the most convenient way to set up a business. The OSBR is an easy-to-use Internet-based system that allows the user to open required federal and provincial business accounts in just one sitting.
Users can register their business with the provincial government, open Canada Revenue Agency accounts (i.e. payroll remittances, GST, import/export, and corporate tax), apply for a PST (provincial sales tax) account, sign up for WCB (Worksafe BC) coverage, and initiate an application for a municipal business license.
Use of the OSBR system is free, although the cost to register a proprietorship/partnership with the provincial government is $40. This fee must be paid at time of registration with Visa, or MasterCard.
The OneStop Business Registration service is available on a drop in basis in our office or on the general internet at: www.onestopbc.ca.
Business-related Government Forms
Available are business-related government forms and information such as corporate name change and provincial name search forms, plus detailed and timely information provided by the federal and provincial governments, local service providers, and the Canada Revenue Agency. Please click here to view our business start-up checklist.
Self-Employment Program
The Self-Employment Program, supported by the Government of Canada, helps people who are unemployed and EI eligible to start their own business. The program offers extensive business planning support, free business workshops and counseling, and EI benefits to assist participants with their personal living expenses while they are establishing their businesses. For more information, click here.
Microfiche System
A current list of the province's corporate business name registry is available at our office for view on a microfiche system, which is free of charge and requires no appointment. A search on this system for those about to request a business name will shed some light on whether or not a desired name is likely to be approved by the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Relations. Remember that a business name must be unique and descriptive, and that any business name already registered by a corporate entity may not be used.
Introductory Self-Employment Information Session
For those seeking further assistance with business start-up, we offer a free introductory information session on entrepreneurship called Exploring Self-Employment. This is in addition to our regular business workshops, which cover most requested business topics.
Business Loans Programs help clients locate traditional and non-traditional financing and non-monetary assistance to develop new businesses or improve existing businesses. Please note that Community Futures South Fraser can only extend loans to businesses operating or launching from within their territory. See this link for map. There are no grants (non-repayable loans) available.
